11/4: The final season has begun!Season 8 has begun! This will be the final season of Game Of Nerds - not because we're shutting down, but because we're dropping the season system in favor of an ongoing competition where high scores aren't reset every three months.
Also, follow our Facebook Page for a cool announcement later this year that will affect the lives of all Game Of Nerds fans. |

29/9: Season 6! Coins no longer required. iPad version FREE. And more.
Season 6 of Game Of Nerds shakes things up quite a bit. Here are the changes:
1. Games now cost 0 coins to play for everybody. Coins can still be won by playing, and they're still used to buy perks and celebrity nerds. Power Nerds still have exclusive right to setting category preferences, and they don't see any Game Of Nerds ads on the game over screen. Also, new Power Nerds now get 500 coins and a free celebrity.
2. The iPad version of Game Of Nerds is now a free app. You can get it at: http://bit.ly/O7cq6g
3. We recently added almost 4,000 new questions to both the web version and the iPad version.
4. The cost of coins and the Power Nerd Upgrade has been lowered.
5. The high score lists have been reset, as we do every season. Congratulations to elbarto470 for making the Hall Of Fame for season 5!
We hope you'll enjoy the changes. Let us know if we've screwed something up. |
|
23/9: Two new tournaments opened| Two tournaments have been opened, allowing you compete for either coins or the coveted Power Nerd Upgrade (see the 'Coins' page for explanation). Good luck to everyone! |
|
30/8: Lots and lots of new questions| 2,500 of these have already been inserted into the game, while we will work to verify the remaining questions over the next few days. (By comparison, popular Trivial Pursuit editions such as "Millennium" Edition typically contain 3000-3600 questions.) Well done! |
|
28/7: We're accepting new questions!Starting now and through August, players can once again contribute to the game with their absurd knowledge. Go to "My Page" on the website and click "Submit Questions" in the right-hand menu to get started. Once you submit a question, it'll be verified by us, and that's it - your question is in the game.
For each verified question, you receive 3 coins. You can also earn different medals for your avatar by getting enough questions verified. |
|
7/7: Season 5 has begun!| Season 4 has come to an end, and Season 5 has begun. The high score list has been reset, and user "Bloo" has been added to the Hall Of Fame for holding on to the top spot until the end of Season 4. Good luck beating your friends in the new season! |

Welcome to our new players, and don't forget to annoy your nerdy friends into playing! |
|

22/12: Season 3 has begun!Season 3 has begun! Congratulations to "rationalboss" for winning Season 2 and making the Hall Of Fame. Here are some of the Season 3 details:
- The Top 100 high score list has been reset and filled out with placeholder scores for players to beat.
- While all players can view their all-time highest score in their personal profile, the friends-only high score list has been reset, allowing for a new round of competition between friends.
- From now on, Power Nerd Upgrades come with a new feature (which also applies to existing Power Nerds): It is now possible to select up to 3 "favorite" categories that you want to see in-game more often, as well as block 3 categories that you don't want to see at all.
- With the help of our player base and moderators, we managed to meet our target quota of new questions for 2011. The function for making new questions has been disabled for now. Once it returns, it'll be available from "My Page" instead. Until then, we've suspended the moderator system. Thanks a lot to all the players who submitted questions in 2011 and the moderators who made a huge effort to insert those questions into the game.
- Two new tournaments have been opened.
- The "Contact" link in the bottom of the website replaces the in-game feedback button. We're still happy to receive your feedback on the game, the concept or the website. |
|
9/12: Million| As of right this moment, Game Of Nerds has been played 1,000,000 times. Thanks to our players and moderators who have helped make a success out of a game which was originally just intended as a bit of programming practice. Hope to see you in the upcoming Season 3 and beyond. |
|
22/11: Season 2 ends in two weeks| In approximately two weeks, Season 2 will end, followed by a brief downtime and the opening of Season 3. If you want to make a last, desperate attempt at the Top 100, now is the time. At the end of the season, the top player is moved to our Hall Of Fame list - for life. |
|
6/11: Power Nerd tournament has ended!| Congratulations to elbarto470, iamashadow and victor212121 who have each won a Power Nerd Upgrade! With a Power Nerd Upgrade, these three next-level nerds will never again have to pay coins in order to play. (Don't worry, the rest of you fine specimens can still get a Power Nerd Upgrade from the 'Coins' page.) Once again, well done! |
|
28/10: New tournament up!| We've started a new tournament which ends in 8 days. The top 3 players win a Power Nerd Upgrade, the account upgrade that you normally get from the 'Coins' page and which reduces the cost of games to 0 coins... for life. (If any of the top 3 players already has a Power Nerd Upgrade, the prizes pass on to the next in line.) Good luck. |
|
27/10: We just realized...| Even though Game Of Nerds has been live for over three months and is enjoying an unexpected level of attention, we still don't have a Wikipedia page. Anyone care to take a shot at that while we work on the game? |
|
22/10: Game Of Nerds YouTube CompetitionWe want to see you play Game Of Nerds, so we're putting up three Power Nerd Upgrades as prizes! (Power Nerd Upgrades let you play GoN games for 0 coins permanently. See the 'Coins' page to learn more about Power Nerd Upgrades.) Deadline is the 3rd of November.
WHAT TO DO?
Simply record a video of your screen as you play a game of GoN and upload it to YouTube (or another public video site). There are three categories:
1: HIGHEST SCORE:
The video that demonstrates the highest score in a game of GoN awards the player a Power Nerd Upgrade. You don't have to make a voice commentary for the video to compete in this category - just your screen as you play from start to finish.
2: FUNNIEST COMMENTARY:
Whether you're a good GoN player or you just plain suck, you can compete in this category: Record your screen as you play a game of GoN and do a live commentary of the game. If you're funny enough, you win a Power Nerd Upgrade. (Commentary must be in English.)
3: NERDIEST COMMENTARY:
Record your screen as you play a game of GoN while doing a live commentary of the game. The commentary doesn't have to be funny, but it should demonstrate that you're nerdier than anyone else. Maybe you have special knowledge about the questions you encounter in the game? Maybe you can tell us some awesomely nerdy details about yourself as you play? It's up to you! (Commentary must be in English.)
DETAILS:
- The recording of the game itself may not be edited if you're competing in the 'Highest Score' category. If you're competing in the two others, you may do whatever you want with the video, but it must feature a full game of GoN somwhere.
- No matter which category you're competing in, you're welcome to add whatever you want to the beginning or the end of the video. Introduce yourself, record your friends, tell us an anecdote about your life as a nerd, go crazy, or don't. It's up to you.
SUBMITTING:
Once you've uploaded the recording to YouTube (or another public video site), mail the video link to admin@gameofnerds.com along with your GoN username, and specify which category the video is competing in. You can submit as many videos as you like.
Deadline for the competition is the 3rd of November. Good luck!
(Got questions? Mail admin@gameofnerds.com.) |

19/10: Game back up| We have spent a couple of days trying to optimize the game's performance, and we hope it'll make a difference. A lot of stuff has been overhauled, so if you encounter a new and exciting bug, let us know. We will of course compensate coins lost due to bugs. |
|
29/9: Tired of needing coins...?WHAT ARE POWER NERD UPGRADES?
We're introducing an experiment for a limited period of time: Power Nerd Upgrades. Activating a Power Nerd Upgrade reduces the cost of playing a game from 3 to 0 coins - permanently. We're offering this upgrade to the first 500 players who donate to help us pay this year's server expenses. All who get a Power Nerd Upgrade also get a "Cape Of The Dark Lord" for their avatar.
Some players have requested a way to get rid of the coin system, even if they had to pay for it. At the same time, the new server is rather expensive for us. So we have a common interest, and that's where the Power Nerd Upgrade comes in. Available from the 'Coins' page (top menu), it allows true GoN addicts to make a donation to the game, and in return they can stop worrying about the coin aspect of playing - forever.
WHY THIS OFFER - AND WHY NOW?
The 'now' aspect is pretty simple. We've recently upgraded our server capacity, and to put it quite simply, we - the two developers who develop and run this game - are currently losing money on running Game Of Nerds. We're not really bothered by not earning money on it, but actually *losing* money on it seems sub-optimal.
But why offer to get rid of the coin system for money?
As you may know at this point, the coins are a central part of what keeps Game Of Nerds flowing. Game Of Nerds is based on a give-and-take economy where players who want to play more than the Monday payout allows can create their own questions to play more. One resource in exchange for another. This ensures a constant increase of questions andkeeps the game interesting for everyone.
However, there is a third resource at play here as well: Time. It has become apparent to us that a lot of players want to play the game on a casual basis, but don't have the time to make questions. This segment of players is out of the loop, so to speak, in terms of the coin system. However, we're hearing from some of them that they would like to be able to simply give up a fourth resource - namely money - in exchange for not having to worry about the coins. The Power Nerd Upgrade is for them.
We don't want to make Power Nerd Upgrades a necessity for players, and we want to carefully test how the concept affects the game's coin flow, so we're starting out by offering Power Nerd Upgrades to the first 500 users who are interested. If the concept is succesful, we may open up for more Power Nerd Upgrades later on. |
